Here is a little history of how I got started doing SEO. Hopefully it will lend a bit of sustenance to my credentials. Back in 1997 I started my career online. I found a banner ad that said I could make money by placing a banner ad on my website. I did so and I soon found a check for $20 in my mailbox. Wow! That is when the light went off for me and I realized that I could actually make money on the internet.

Well I soon expanded this by creating more websites and pages at other sites online. Back then the Geocities type free hosting accounts worked well, and you could create an entire website without cost. Obviously that isn't true today, especially with Google, who wants you to have a regular domain and online presence. I kept creating new sites and worked myself up to making about $2,000 monthly from just placing banners onto web pages. The trick was to get your site listed in the top 10, or preferably ... #1.

Back then Google didn't exist. The major engines were Yahoo!, Excite and InfoSeek ... among others. InfoSeek had something called Instant Indexing. This amounted to submitting your site and it would instantly index it, and list you where their algorithm placed you. This made it a very easy chore to edit your site and then resubmit it and see where you land. Edit it again and again and again until you were #1. These were incredible times and it was really a simple task to get yourself good listings. Most of the engines went by the keywords meta tag back then and, believe it or not, if you added your keyword to the meta tag one more time than your competition, you'd get listed ahead of them. Of course these times were short lived and search engines evolved and life is as it is today. After all, why would a site lite Excite want to have all of the first 30 listings be for one website ... like I had done!

Things Have Changed
Today you need to work harder to get a top listing. The algorithms have become very complex and it is difficult to get good listings. I said difficult ... not impossible. All you really need to do is meet the requirements of the algorithms. In my Advanced Ethical SEO Training you will learn exactly that. Don't let the word advanced scare you off though. None of the black hat tactics ever work for long ... as soon as the engines catch on you lose your listings. If you keep it up, you'll probably get blacklisted and lose everything.

This is where Ethical SEO comes into it's own. Search engines was to serve up listings of good websites. They want their users to come back and use them again. Their algorithms are fine tuned to select only these good sites. As long as what you do to your site falls within the algorithmic criteria you will be safe and, as a bonus, get good listings.
