Offshore SEO?

You mean … on an island offshore? At the beach? I don’t get it?!?
Actually, I do, and the phrase is referring to SEO firms located in a different country, and time zone.
I haven’t been too active here on my own blog, just can’t seem to find the time, but I’m looking to spend more time here and trying to rearrange my schedule to allow it.
I saw a posting that it was better to hire XYZ SEO Co., from India, than it was to hire an American SEO firm. The argument was that “while you sleep we work”. Well, I suppose it’s reassuring that they tell you they will be working. I have wonder sometimes. But, what if you want to actually talk to someone. What then? What if you want your content to be written in English … not IndiEnglish. What then?
Well, it seems to be, from my own experience with my own clients, that when they want me for something they will call, or email, and I will respond quickly and handle their request or answer their questions.
This is the service you want, not “next day” service. You can get UPS for that.
I have dabbled in some offshore work. I had a company do some “Social Networking” for a site of my own that I’m playing with, and testing marketing methods with. I found nothing but spammy entries all over the web. I’m guessing that the person on the other end doesn’t read English. There are one and two line “quotes” from the Privacy Policy, and the About Us pages. These will harm me more than help me. Fortunately, it’s a test on a site of my own and not a clients. I wouldn’t risk a clients site for a test.
My advice is to skip over these “offshore” people. Don’t skimp or cut corners on your site. Everything online is documented and tends to have a life cycle of it’s own. Don’t let bad content online bog down your progress. Once a posting is in the SERPs it’s apt to stay in the SERPs for a very long time.
