Web Analytics

It came to my attention recently that some of my newer clients had no idea of where they stood in the SERPs for their site. They had no analytics software on their sites. All they ever did was type their keywords into Google and then go through the SERPs, page by page, until they found their listing. Times consuming … yes, effective … not really.

Having analytics on your site let’s you see where you stand in the big picture. You’ll see traffic statistics, in many cases, such as Google Analytics, you’ll see nice graphs that really provide information in detail. This information will help you analyze your site, see where it needs some work, and where it is doing well. This comparison is helpful to SEO your site, overall. You’ll see what is working better and can then improve it.

Google Analytics is good. Lots of information. I also use on some of my own sites a program called … AXS. It’s available at xav.com and is good basic analytics. It shows your visitors, and where they came from, often what keyword they searched for … a lot like Google Analytics does, but with less overall information … and less flashy graphics. I started using this program many, many years ago, probably back in the late 90s. I’m used to it and like any other good old fart … I’m stuck in the past and don’t like change!

Having said that … Google Analytics is fine, I use it too, and I like it. I’m not without the ability to change … even if I like things as they are!

You can find Google Analytics somewhere like … google.com/analytics/
